Empowering Iligan's Urban Poor: Stakeholders Unite for Skills and Opportunities

On February 26, 2025, the Urban Poor Coordinating Office organized a Stakeholders' Orientation at the SP Session Hall, Buhanginan Hills, Pala-o, Iligan City. The event aimed to provide vital information and opportunities for urban poor communities in Iligan City through the collaboration of various government agencies. Among the invited agencies were Regional Training Center – Iligan, Pag-IBIG Fund, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). The event was attended by nearly 60 individuals, including presidents of urban poor associations and barangay officials from different barangays of Iligan City. Regional Training Center – Iligan actively participated in the event by delivering an orientation on the various TESDA programs available for poor urban communities. The presentation covered different skills training programs and scholarships that TESDA offers to enhance the employability and economic capacity of underprivileged sectors. The discussion emphasized the accessibility of these programs and how they could significantly contribute to uplifting the lives of individuals from marginalized communities. City Councilor Atty. Maria Paz Teresa "Betsy" Zalsos also delivered a message of support, emphasizing the local government's commitment to uplifting urban poor communities through strategic partnerships and accessible programs. Overall, the event was a significant step toward strengthening partnerships and implementing programs that promote social and economic development within Iligan City's urban poor communities.

RTC-Iligan held its Exit and Entrance Conference with COA Iligan on February 27, 2025, to review audit findings and discuss recommendations for improving financial and operational compliance. COA Regional personnel, led by Ms. Rosemarie E. Magcanta and Abdul Jamie Lomondot , along with the audit team, shared key observations. RTC-Iligan, headed by Ms. Sittie A. Limbao, committed to addressing concerns and implementing corrective measures. Mr. Dan M. Jutba, Incoming Audit Team Leader outlined the upcoming audit's objectives and timeline, with RTC-Iligan pledging transparency and compliance, focusing on strengthening internal controls and financial reporting accuracy.

RTC-Iligan Employees Participate in 2025 Nationwide Earthquake Drill

Regional Training Center-Iligan participated in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2025 on Thursday, March 13. During the drill, employees practiced the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" technique as part of an earthquake simulation. The NSED 2025 was conducted in accordance with Memorandum No. 73, s. 2025 from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), aimed at preparing both employees and clients on how to respond in the event of an earthquake.

Empowering Women Through Skills: RTC-Iligan Celebrates National Women’s Month with Hands-On Extension Wire Making Training

On March 18, 2025, the Regional Training Center - Iligan successfully conducted a one-day training on Extension Wire Making, exclusively designed for its women employees, led by Mr. Peter C. Agustino, Senior TESD Specialist. This initiative was part of the 2025 National Women's Month celebration under the #SerbisyoParaKayJuana campaign, in line with the Philippine Commission on Women's advocacy for women's empowerment through skills development, reflecting RTC-ligan's commitment to fostering inclusive technical education. The training aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in electrical wiring. During the session, participants were introduced to fundamental wiring techniques, essential safety protocols, and best practices to ensure quality and durability in extension wire making. The hands-on component allowed each participant to assemble an extension wire, reinforcing their technical skills and boosting their confidence in electrical work. Their active engagement and enthusiasm reflected the success of the training in achieving its objectives. This activity not only strengthened the participants' technical skills but also underscored RTC-lligan's unwavering commitment to advancing women's empowerment through skills training.
